Important Manufacturing Note
Not every combination of:
Base Curve × Diameter × Material
can necessarily be manufactured.
Cantor Barnard states that some parameter combinations are restricted depending on the selected material.
For this reason, Non Standard parameters should be presented as a custom request requiring laboratory review rather than as an unrestricted list of customer-selectable options.
Hydrolens Design
The official design includes:
Spherical Blended Front Surface
and:
Spherical Blended Back Surface
together with a:
Graduated Aspheric Lenticular Zone
This graduated aspheric lenticular zone is used to help:
- Reduce lens thickness across different powers
- Improve handling
- Support oxygen transmission
Manufacturing is performed using:
Computer-Controlled Lathes
to provide high reproducibility of customized prescriptions.
Hydrofit Specifications
Hydrofit is also a Single Vision Sphere soft lens, but its standard fitting parameters are more defined than Hydrolens.
Diameter | Base Curves |
|---|
13.00 mm | 7.50 / 7.80 / 8.10 mm |
13.75 mm | 8.10 / 8.40 / 8.70 mm |
14.50 mm | 8.50 / 8.80 / 9.10 mm |
Power range:
-30.00D to +30.00D
Power steps:
0.25D
Higher powers:
May be available on request
If an order is specifically labeled:
Hydrofit NON STANDARD
it is important to identify exactly which parameter is non-standard, such as:
- Power
- Diameter
- Base Curve
- Material
because the general published Hydrofit information does not provide a separate expanded non-standard fitting range.
Hydrofit Materials
Cantor Barnard currently lists:
Material | Scientific / USAN Name | Water Content | Dk |
|---|
Contaflex 38 | Filcon 1 | 38% | 8 |
GM Advance | Acofilcon A | 58% | 25 |
Contaflex 67 | Filcon 2 | 67% | 37 |
Hydrofit Replacement Schedule
Cantor Barnard describes Hydrofit as a Lathe-Cut lens:
Designed to last up to 6 months
with the actual replacement frequency determined by the eye care professional.
Recommended wording:
Replacement: Up to 6 Months / According to eye care professional recommendation
Hydrolens or Hydrofit for Non-Standard Parameters?
If the requirement involves genuinely unusual or highly customized fitting parameters, Hydrolens is officially the more flexible range because it extends to:
Base Curve: 6.60–10.40 mm
and:
Diameter: 11.00–20.00 mm
Hydrofit, by comparison, uses three more specific standard Diameter and Base Curve groups.
For this reason, Hydrolens and Hydrofit should not necessarily be combined into one final product listing unless:
Hydrolens / Hydrofit Sphere Clear – Non Standard
is the actual naming convention used by the supplier.
Suitable Applications
The Sphere version is primarily suitable for:
- Myopia
- Hyperopia
- Higher spherical prescriptions
- Cases requiring a customized Diameter
- Cases requiring a customized Base Curve
- Users who are not adequately served by standard stock parameters
- Cases requiring a custom soft lens based on individual ocular measurements
Not Intended for These Corrections
Astigmatism
If Cylinder and Axis correction is required, the more appropriate Cantor Barnard design is:
Hydrocyl
Presbyopia / Multifocal Correction
This Sphere version is not intended for Multifocal correction.
Cantor Barnard offers separate Multifocal products such as:
PV Series
Vision Type
Recommended product classification:
Vision Type: Single Vision
The standard spherical Hydrolens / Hydrofit design is not Multifocal.
EV Aberration Control
An optional:
Cantor Barnard EV Aberration Control
may be added to Hydrolens.
The company describes it as an:
Aberration-Controlled Single Vision Enhancement
intended to improve visual clarity and stability, particularly under difficult lighting or contrast conditions.
However:
- It is not Multifocal
- It should not automatically be included with Sphere / Clear / Non Standard
- It should only be listed if specifically included in the prescription or order
Fitting Procedure
The official Hydro Range fitting guidance recommends beginning with:
- Full Refraction
- Eye Examination
- Keratometry
- HVID measurement
- Diameter selection
- Base Curve selection
- BVD power adjustment when required
Diameter Selection
Cantor Barnard recommends an initial starting point of:
Diameter = HVID + 2.00 to 3.00 mm
The final Diameter is then adjusted according to:
- Corneal coverage
- Centration
- Lens movement
Settling Time
After lens insertion:
Allow approximately 30 minutes
before the final fitting assessment.
The professional should then evaluate:
- Comfort
- Centration
- Coverage
- Edge behavior
- Movement with Blink
- Push-Up Test
- Over-Refraction
Good Fit
A good fit generally includes:
- Good comfort
- Good centration
- Complete limbal coverage
- Stable edge
- Appropriate movement with blinking
- Easy movement during the Push-Up Test
- Good return to the central position
Steep Fit
A steep fit may show:
- Little or no movement
- Difficulty performing the Push-Up Test
- Slow return to the central position
- Conjunctival indentation
- Blanching
The fitting may require:
- A flatter Base Curve
- Diameter adjustment
Flat Fit
A flat fit may show:
- Poor comfort
- Poor centration
- Insufficient coverage
- Excessive movement
- Edge stand-off
- Fluting
The fitting may require:
- A steeper Base Curve
- Diameter adjustment

Published maximum replacement periods differ between the two ranges:
- Hydrolens: Up to 12 months maximum
- Hydrofit: Designed for up to approximately 6 months
The actual replacement interval should always be determined by the eye care professional.
Important Warnings
Hydrolens / Hydrofit Sphere Clear – Non Standard is a custom medical Single Vision soft contact lens manufactured according to the prescription and measurements of the eye. Any non-standard parameters must be determined and reviewed by an eye care professional before manufacturing.
Available combinations of:
- Material
- Base Curve
- Diameter
- Power
may be subject to laboratory manufacturing limitations.
The lens is intended for:
Daily Wear
and the appropriate wearing and replacement schedule should be determined individually by the eye care professional.
